During our two wingfoil holidays in Corralejo, Fuerteventura, this past year, we were struck by the rapid growth in the number of wingfoilers. The usual spots are now filled with wings, and even in more secluded areas, it’s easy to find someone to share the stoke with. Despite this increasing popularity, it never felt crowded during our low-season visits.
Let’s examine the reasons why we, as a wingfoiling-loving family, adore spending our wingfoil holidays in Corralejo, and what makes it so appealing to others that it’s becoming the new wing foil mecca.
The Variety of Wingfoil Spots in Corralejo

Within a maximum 20-minute radius, you’ll find at least four exceptional spots to choose from, depending on the wind forecast, your skill level, and the prevailing conditions.
Corralejo Viejo -Waikiki beach, right in the town center, is ideal for beginners, while experienced riders can have a blast at Rocky Point. Flag Beach, with its stunning sandy and dune landscape, is a kitesurfer’s paradise due to its vast expanse. Wing Foiling is also fantastic there, though the choppier waves tend to suit more advanced wingfoilers. Puerto Lajas, located 20 minutes from Corralejo, is a wild haven for wave enthusiasts. For an even more rugged experience and bigger waves, Majanicho in the north, just 15 minutes from Corralejo city center, awaits.

For a detailed guide to these spots, please refer to our previous post. Remember to check the webcams (unfortunately, there isn’t one for Puerto Lajas yet) before deciding where to go.
If you need to rent equipment, there are very well-equipped rental services directly in Corralejo city center. We usually bring our own gear, so we cannot give precise details, but we visited those shops for board repair kits and small items and found them all to be very well-equipped and professional.
Spectacular Corralejo Beaches

While we’ve visited other Canary Islands like Tenerife and Lanzarote, we haven’t encountered beaches as breathtaking as those in the Corralejo area. The beaches are all wide, never feel overcrowded, and boast golden sand and crystal-clear waters.
Parking is consistently free and right by the beach, and you truly experience a local rather than a purely touristy vibe. Topping our list are the Corralejo Dunes Natural Park beach and Playa Alzada.
Corralejo offers an Affordable Wingfoil Holiday
While we might dream of wingfoiling in Dominican Republic spots, living in Europe, these destinations often exceed our budget. Fuerteventura, on the other hand, offers numerous low-cost flights from many European cities throughout the year, and the cost of living and accommodation is reasonable. Mercadona supermarkets provide high-quality food at significantly lower prices compared to our northern Italian standards. Even petrol and car rentals are much cheaper here.
Ideal Climate for Every Season
The Canary Islands boast a perfect climate year-round. During our winter and spring visits, we consistently experienced pleasantly warm temperatures – never too hot, which is ideal, especially with young children and for practicing sports. Accustomed to Lake Garda’s cold water temperatures in winter, we found Fuerteventura’s ocean water to be much more agreeable, allowing us to comfortably wingfoil with a 3mm wetsuit even during the winter months.
Corralejo is Ideal for Family Holidays Too

As a family of three with a two-year-old, we found Corralejo to be a dream. Our little one loved our holiday so much that he affectionately named our rental house “the new house” and experienced a very sad return home, referring to our actual home as “the old house.”
A key reason Corralejo is perfect for a sporty family is that directly at or adjacent to the wingfoil spots, you’ll find sheltered areas with plenty of sand and space for children to play. Another highlight for our little one, and for us as well for a relaxing post-beach aperitivo, is the Guay Parque in Corralejo city center. Thanks to its ticket system (you pay for an hour or more of playtime), the park never gets overly crowded. IIf your child loves jumping, this is the perfect place for some after-beach fun, with a welcoming local, non-touristy atmosphere.
Surfing Alternatives on Windless Days

We all know that wind conditions can be unpredictable. The fantastic thing about a holiday in Corralejo for active people is the abundance of surf spots in the same area. Among the most popular surfing locations near Corralejo, we’ve enjoyed Playa el Moro, which works best at high tide. Alzada and Glass Beach can also offer smaller waves perfect for beginners.
For more consistent and challenging waves, El Cotillo in the north is definitely the place to head. The vast and sandy Piedra Playa beach at El Cotillo boasts top waves and is a popular choice for van lifers, with parking available on the cliffs above.
It’s all these reasons that make our love for Corralejo grow with each visit, and we never tire of returning! Ready to explore more wingfoil destinations and plan your perfect holiday? Head over to our dedicated section for tips and inspiration.
