Karpathos Windsurf Family Holiday

You are currently viewing Karpathos Windsurf Family Holiday

Are you a wind enthusiast seeking an adventure-packed family holiday? Karpathos might just be your dream destination. Nestled in the Aegean Sea, this Greek island boasts not only stunning beaches but also powerful winds that thrill windsurfing aficionados.

However, if wind isn’t your cup of tea, you might find the island a bit too gusty for comfort.
Nevertheless, Karpathos remains a gem for those who appreciate its untamed beauty and affordability.

Getting To Karpathos : flying with a baby

Our family journey from Venice to Karpathos via Volotea was smooth sailing. We had the convenience of bringing along two baby essentials – a stroller and a carrier, although we didn’t use the latter much due to the scorching weather and lack of suitable trails.
For this holiday, we didn’t bring our sports equipment, but we advise you to do so. Don’t worry, flying with sports equipment and a baby is feasible and fun!

Renting a car upon arrival was a breeze, thanks to a friendly local rental company offering competitive prices.

The Perfect Accomodation for a Wind Lover’s Family

Sunrise in Karpathos

We highly recommend Fokia Beach Residence, where the staff went above and beyond to ensure our comfort, even providing complimentary amenities for our baby. The spacious apartments, complete with beach-view terraces, made for a relaxing retreat.

Waking up to the sunrise over the sea eased the fatigue of nighttime feedings, making our stay even more enjoyable.

Gun’s Bay: Your Top Family-Friendly Karpathos Windsurf Spot

Gun’s Bay stole the show as the ultimate windsurfing spot for families.

Positioned between Devil’s Bay, renowned as the most difficult spot to ride in Karpathos, and Chicken Bay, the spot where beginners learn, it offers moderate difficulty. It’s ideal for intermediate riders. With strong winds, the challenge level rises, so caution is advised.

Most people there ride windsurfs, especially on days of very strong wind (and believe us, the Meltemi can get very strong, for us used to the wind on Garda Lake). Wing foiling is also becoming popular, and for me as a learner, this spot offering very flat waters with no waves was perfect.

The ION rental center provided top-notch equipment and attentive service, including emergency assistance if needed. The beachside amenities, including free deck chairs, umbrellas, and a pirate ship playground, kept our little one entertained during windy days.

The spacious pebble beach allowed for both windsurfing and toddler exploration, making it a hit with the whole family.

Beyond Windsurfing: Exploring and Indulging in Karpathos with the Family

Our family holiday in Karpathos offered both adventure on windy days and relaxation on calmer ones.

However, don’t assume the wind will always be strong. t’s best to go windsurfing when the wind is present and save the calmer days for later. Learn from our mistake; don’t wait until the last days to go windsurfing, only to find no wind.

On calmer days, we ventured to other renowned beaches like Pera Ammos, perfect for young swimmers, and Achata and Apella, known for their crystal-clear waters.

Although some beaches had limited space for non-renters, they offered cafes and restaurants for added convenience. In Pigadia, we stocked up on fresh produce for delicious Greek salads and discovered the charm of Greek coffee, now a cherished part of our routine.

Efcharistò Karpathos!

Our time in Karpathos was an unforgettable blend of adventure and relaxation, thanks to its unique winds and scenic beauty. We’ll forever cherish the memories of our Karpathos Windsurf Family Holiday, a windswept paradise.

ευχαριστώ (efcharistò), Karpathos, for an unforgettable experience!
